Nutrition, Metabolism and the Brain
The Academy Colloquium on Nutrition, Metabolism and the Brain will focus on the mammalian hypothalamus, and especially its involvement in the physiology and pathology of the control of energy metabolism, the main question still being how the hypothalamus is able to integrate “sensory” information from the internal and external environment and to fine-tune this integrated information with the metabolic needs and demands of different physiological systems.
The main topic that we wish to emphasize during this Academy Colloquium is:
The emerging role of the hypothalamus as a crucial link between sensing nutrients and the control of insulin sensitivity, glucose uptake, and glucose production.
The hypothalamic control of energy metabolism is addressed in 6 sessions.
1. Nutrients modulating hypothalamic activity and metabolism
2. Hormones modulating hypothalamic activity and metabolism
3. Hypothalamic output and the control of the energy balance
4. Hypothalamic fuel signalling
5. Hypothalamus, the thyroid and metabolism
6. Hypothalamic integration of (sleep) rhythms and energy metabolism
Academy Colloquia are aimed at providing a top level forum for discussing broad views as well as recent developments on a topical theme.
The target groups are senior researchers and post-docs, both in basic and clinical science.
Preceding the colloquium a masterclass for PhD students will be organized.
The current Academy Colloquium will start shortly after the 17th European Congress on Obesity, which will also take place in Amsterdam
